When you first message me, I want to know if you have owned Australian Shepherds in the past or currently. If not, we need to have a chat to make sure this is the right breed for you. I don't mind answering questions about the Australian Shepherds, even if you are not buying a puppy here. I got my first one when I was a kid and have been hooked ever since. You can call me at 760-207-3401
NOTE - I DO NOT SHIP DOGS! I actually prefer the Wiggle Butts stay here in Southern California if possible. If you live out of the area but within driving distance. Best to call me to talk about possibly getting a puppy from here.
Puppies are sold with LIMITED AKC registration, which means there are NO BREEDING RIGHTS. They are intended as gorgeous, great family pets and/or ranch dogs.
I ask for a $100 FULLY REFUNDABLE deposit to hold puppies. It only takes a few minutes for me to get a deposit via Venmo or PayPal, which is how most puppy buyers pay. Waitlist buyers get the first choice of puppies. People who bought puppies from me in the past are moved to the top of the waitlist in the order they contacted me. Usually, about a year or two after purchasing a puppy, people contact me to buy a second Aussie, which is excellent! We schedule pickup of your puppy after they are 8+ weeks old, all dewormings are up to date, first shots are completed, they are eating dry food with no issues, and have solid stools. I want puppies SUPER ready for the big transition to a new home. New people, new water, and sometimes a long car ride to the new house.
Hold Deposit status when posted on the website:
Hold Deposit Pending - Waiting for the deposit to arrive.
Reserved - Hold Deposit has been paid
Sold - Puppy is paid for in full and has been picked up
More Notes:
We can accept the $100 refundable deposits via cash-type apps. The balance must be paid in cash at pickup. We can arrange for you to mail a check in advance if the puppy is under 8 weeks old when you reserve it. Checks need to be received, deposited, and cleared before the pickup date if you are going this route.
Aussies are my hobby. I raise Aussies for me. 1-2 litters per year here. I 100% own all the parents of the puppies. All puppies are born here at THE MEAD RANCH in San Diego, California.

The day you are coming to pick up your puppy. DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT visit other breeder's homes, doggie daycare facilities, pet stores with puppies, dog shelters, dog parks, or anyplace with young dogs. WHY? You risk infecting your new puppy with a contagious illness. Yes, 1st shots help, but not 100% protection until they had ALL shots and boosters. Please don't bring illness to my ranch :( I'm very protective of puppies until they have had their first shots. Good idea to bring a crate (unless you have someone to hold them on the way home), towel or blanket, and paper towels in case they get car sick on the way home. I will provide you with a bag of their dog food. A reminder that they are babies. Stress, being picked up a bunch or a car ride, can lead to them tossing their cookies :) Don't panic if this happens, but do monitor them to make sure they have improved within 12 hours.
We use Bil-Jac 30/20 Performance Dry Dog Food. I prefer puppies bought here stay free-fed on Bil-Jac. Please don't let your vet or a local pet food store talk you into another brand. They are motivated by profit. My motivation is happy, healthy dogs. I prefer my puppies to be free-fed Bil Jac so they can grow to reach their full potential. We also feed the dogs fresh-cooked chicken and a few other treats.
Make sure to get the:
Bil-Jac 30/20 Performance Dry Dog Food. The wrong kind and you will end up with a puppy with a tummy ache. For example, a small-breed puppy formula will be very rich and may make the puppy feel unwell.
Tractor Supply has Bil-Jac 30/20 Formula Dog Food HERE
Very, very busy here, and I pretty much work from sunup until I pass out. I'm not a store. The ranch is my home, and the critters are my hobby. Please be patient while I get back to you. Animal care is the first priority here.
Gone are the days of going to someone's home and picking which puppy you want from 5+ puppies in a pen. This may still happen at some places. In general here, people reserve a puppy and come here to pick up that one puppy on a scheduled date and time. Seriously safer that way not having dozens of people touching puppies. Young puppies do not have strong immune systems like adult dogs. The 1st set of vaccines helps, but will not 100% keep them safe from highly contagious illnesses. I care about our puppies health more than I do people's wants and feelings in the big picture. Nothing personal when I tell you no visits. I just want puppies super clean and safe here.
MOST of the puppies do not keep blue eyes. Keep this in mind while looking for a dog. Do not pay a breeder extra for blue eyes because there is a good chance they will turn to brown (Black and Blue Dogs) or amber (Red Dogs) as the dog matures.
